XOLO Play Tegra Note Tablet, Game on!

December 24, 2013 by Tablet Guru 5 Comments

xolo play tegra gaming tab
The World’s Fastest Android Tablet

XOLO, the larger venture of LAVA International with Intel has brought a new Tab in the market, which they claim to be the fastest of all the available ones. It is the new Tegra processor based-gaming oriented- “XOLO Play Tegra Note”.  The device houses 1.8 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 4 mobile processor along side another Quad-core Cortex A15 CPU. The processors also get the rush from a 72-core GeForce GPU. On papers, it surely appears a revolution, but its real performance is yet to be tested in the coming days.

XOLO Play Tegra Note is a 7 inch Tablet PC. It has got powerful speakers which rest peacefully, only until it’s playing music, behind the grills. The plastic cover doesn’t appear that premium, but is of decent built. A rubber finish would have been preferred as the Tablet will mostly see gaming, which is a touch easy when the grip is favorable.

Since the touch is expected to be most responsive, the stylus is believed to remain very active. Because of this, the XOLO has taken great pains to pack along a good looking stylus. There is a mini-HDMI port which will enable the users to connect the Tab with a larger screen output. One can get a bluetooth console and sync it to the best and enjoy the PSP-like gaming experience.

Let’s now deal with the usual specs of a Tab, with this Tab in particular. XOLO Play Tegra Note is an Android-bred Tablet PC. The cameras are 5MP and 0.3MP in the rear and the front respectively. The quality of camera will get much of your attention for all the good reasons. The speakers are placed in the front side and the output is delightful. This XOLO tab sports 1GB RAM, which won’t content a greedy gamer  but will suffice for others. It has got sufficient 16GB internal space with an option for to include 64GB external space.

XOLO Play Tegra Note Tablet has come at a time when ASUS along with Google has put their best foot forward in the Tablet PC market with their Nexus 7/7C 2013. Since XOLO is also turning a lot of heads with its performance quotient, Nexus might face a tough challenge spreading in front of the XOLO force.

Surprise surprise ! says Datawind to its rivals.

December 23, 2013 by Tablet Guru Leave a Comment

Datawind in CMR
Some went up and some went down…

After the third quarterly Tablet PC market report was out, the market started to feel the heat which was developed my the makers of Akash Tablets in India, Datawind. According to the reports issued by the prestigious Cyber Media Research (CMR), there were about 1,204,410 tablet pc pieces sold in this the quarter which saw months from July to September. In this period, the analysts observed though there were all together 43 domestic and international vendors, only 13 vendors made it worth noticing. The sales registered a 9% year-on-year increase over last year’s 3rd quarterly numbers. And it also picked up the market by 4% more as compared to the last quarter, which is quite a modest performance. This could have been much better if there was no BIS certificate constraint imposed by the government to sell Tablet PCs and alike in the country.

Clearly, the competition is stifle and cut-throat. Many have already succumb to the peer pressure built on them. Not all have the force and fortune like the Samsung, Datawind and Lenevo, which are the top three sellers of Tablet PCs in the last quarter. Samsung has maintain the spot for obvious reasons as there is no other real competition for Samsung in the premium sector which can beat the reasonable price range offered by this Korean giant.

Datawind, despite of the market being flooded with all lot better, in certain ways, entry level Tablet PCs, survives the thunder and saves its spot no. 2, yet again. This report has come up as quite an unexpected surprise news to the general market which thought Datawind has already seen its best days in India. Thanks to the Enterprise Tablet market which certainly had Datawind as their predilection. The Enterprise Tablet PC market is such a market where a lot of entry level Tablet PC makers fight to have their footings. But since the fight is tight here, with minimal profit margin, only an established name could think of flourishing and others are forced to shutdown before going broken down completely.

Lenevo has made another surprise entry on the winners’ dais, unprecedentedly securing the final spot in the top three spots.

According to CMR, as per as technological trends are concerned, 3G Tabs are going to top the sales. Further Android will remain as the undisputed king in the OS department. Though the numbers of Windows and iOS fans are getting bigger and bigger every coming day. Windows 8.1 based Tabs and iPad Air and iPad Mini 2 launch foresee decent drift away in the Tab market. Even in the Enterprise market Android seems to be everyone’s favorite but the latest trends suggest Windows to come into a larger picture soon.

Companies in the Pharmaceuticals and Retail sector are expected to take the Tablet PC consumption to the next level. Good and dedicated OSes are also being developed to cater these kind of requirements of these kind of companies. But even though there is so much being done for new OS in newer Tabs, solution based ODMs (Original Design Manufacturers) will rule, as always.

Lava Velo+ Tab, Android 4.2.2 Price Rs 4499

October 29, 2013 by Tablet Guru Leave a Comment

lava e tab velo+ specification

In the Indian budget tablet market, Lava has been a competitive player and attracts good faith in terms of affordability and reliability. Adding another star to its name, lava present E-Tab Velo + at an unbelievable price of Rs. 4,449. Yes… with 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS, definitely Velo + is a treat. Being among top 3 Indian brands is not a piece of cake and Lava’s omnipresence is the proof of it. Lava has added another dimension to the tab market with Velo +. It is the dark horse in the race of budget tab.

The tab comes with 7 inch display (WVGA 800 X 400 Pixels) with a pixel density of 133 ppi. Though, the resolution quality is OK but affordability does not make it an issue. After all, what can you expect at such reasonable price? It is powered by 1 GHZ Cortex A8 single core processor and is supported by passable RAM of 512 MB. Mali 400 GPU is another run-of-the-mill. But as I said earlier, low price completely suffice fair to middling configuration. The internal storage capacity is 4GB which is expendable up to 32 GB with the help of microSD card.

The tab promotes 3G via external dongle and also supports WiFi and microUSB. It has fair battery ratings of 2500mAh. It is rigged with front facing 0.3 VGA camera and 3.5 mm audio jack. Unavailability of rear camera makes it a little flat. But the combo of nominal cost and decent configuration makes Velo+ a real bargain.

Tablets for Kids: Answer to parent’s concern

September 30, 2013 by Tablet Guru 1 Comment

We all remember the famous nursery rhyme “Johnny Johnny” from our kindergartens. But do you know the latest version of it??? Here it is,

Johnny, Johnny

Yes, papa

Using computer???

Yes, papa

Throw it out!!!

What, papa!!!

Here is the tablet

Ha hahahaaaaa

If tablets are exceptionally beneficial to the youngsters and adults, and are equally advantageous to the elders, so they can be constructive and nifty for the kids as well. I bet, they are. Technology is evolving at superfast speed. So are our kids and their demands, and the demands of even swiftly evolving, globally connected world ruled by the ultimate God of virtual reality i.e. internet. So, even kids need to stand apart and they are.  Smart classes in schools, multi media as subject and facebook and twitter account in their Smartphone-can anybody say that their world is limited to color books, crayons, building blocks, hot wheels car and Cinderella and Snowwhite!!!

Today even a 5 year old boy or for that matter a girl, know about the latest Smartphone and their specs, the hottest car in the market and the mileage it gives and the recently launched PC and tablet games and configuration that supports it. Not because it’s a trend but it is the need of the hour. What to do???Nobody can afford to sit at the back and see the world speeding up at light’s speed. So do not be surprise when you see your tiny tots swiping and tapping your business slat.

Technology manufacturers responded in a smart way when they realized that the tablet market has grown to leaps and bound and kid zone has to be taken up seriously.  They quickly retorted to this unseen market segment.  I exactly know…what is popping out of your brains???…. What distinguishes kid’s tablets? I won’t brag about education and games and all that….. There is only one word for it i.e. fun. Ohh yes… whether it is games, movies or music, or language learning, e-books, abacus or memory tools… tablet makes everything fun. And that is the key point here. Most of these apps and tools are preloaded and can be enjoyed at your finger tips. So, the kid zone of tablet has everything for everyone- toddlers, younger kids and teens.

I know, I know the favorite of the favorite concern of every parent is what about the boundless territory of internet. No doubt, when it comes to internet and smart technology parents become little concern. After all, it will expose the kids to entirety of unknown. Do not worry. There are controls and filters and parental control software that can track your child’s complete activities and hence, can protect kids online and regulate their usage of the tablet.

So, keep your kid’s need, your budget and some of the following buying tips in your mind while buying a tablet for your kid:-

  1. Robust design: – Children, especially toddlers and kids, bump their tabs into everything. So go for robust built with rear and side bumpers and cheaper ones with warranty.
  2. Bigger screen: – For kids, the bigger screen with large buttons and display lock ascertain great picture, bigger fonts, clarity and bigger drawing screen.
  3. Eyes protection: – Always go for an anti radiation screen to safeguard your child’s eyes from harmful radiations.
  4. Covers and sleeves: – To protect the slate from water and other impurities, tablet should be in sleeves or covers because you never know when the spilling of water becomes a game for your tot.
  5. Apps and software: -Tablets come with preinstalled educational and recreational apps and parental control software. Many more can be downloaded from Play store and Google apps.

So get the full information before buying and give your child a safe and knowledgeable tablet experience.
