What’s Wrong with Apple For Indians?

December 11, 2013 by Tablet Guru Leave a Comment

no apple for indians

According to the recent market studies and surveys it is clear the Apple is the most recognized brand in the world. Especially in the west, one would hardly find any tech-savvy who doesn’t own at least one, if not all, of the Apple products. Earlier it used to be a cool gadget brand to them but with time it has more become the only gadget brand to them. Hats Off! to Apple for achieving such a feet and also been able to retain its footing for so long.

Samsung, another global leader in the electronics is emerging with full force and is posing the biggest threat, not only to the market share of the Apple products but also to the “Cool-factor” which the latter boasts beautifully. Apple is different to all its other competitors in many ways, be it production policy or marketing or anything. We all know India is a big market for electronics, with a population only next to China which carries a cell-phone. But Apple isn’t doing great in this part of the world while the others are minting money by exploiting this gigantic market. Let’s us the probable reasons for this point wise:-
1) Apple products are the costliest: Indians are known for their money-wise nature. An average middle class person, though might be able to afford Apple’s kitty, will choose to buy a lesser expensive product which shall solve all his/her purposes. They would certainly agree with the aesthetics and the environment of an Apple’s product, and also accept the cost at which these products are launched, but its money which strikes first to the most of them.
2)  Apple doesn’t offer variety: Unlike Samsung, Toshiba, Lenevo etc, Apple product doesn’t come in much variants, in fact close to zero. Indian consumers like options to choose from. Some would prefer bigger screen and the others might prefer dual SIM and likewise. But no such efforts are made by the Apple makers to lure the Indians.
3) Locked environment: Apple products are very locked up. One can hardly modify a thing. You have to rely only on the Apple’s software and hardware to rev your experience. Hardly you get anything free and which means extra burden on each single product you purchase.
4) Media Transfer is not so possible locally: Apple products are extremely powerful when you are connected to internet, and why not. But at times there are situations, especially when you have to transfer a file locally without the help of internet. Now you need Bluetooth, but if you have an Apple, this implies you don’t have BT. This is a situation, isn’t it. Given the fact the Apple products are still quite rare in India, no Bluetooth in your device to communicate with other Bluetooth enabled devices around, is indeed a situation.
5) iTunes factor: iTunes is the only App which enables your device to store songs inside. So first install iTunes in your computer, then transfer all your music in the iTunes. Further sync all the songs which you want in your iPad/iPod/iPhone. Phew! quite a task, ain’t it?  This is hell of a job fairly impossible for the majority of the Indian population which hails from rural or sub-urban belts. So, the majority of the market rejects Apple on the basis of the “jobs” it demands for even the simplest things.
Internet is flooded with queries people, especially first time users, asking issues dealing with iTunes. Things are so much easier, as easy as copy-paste, in other multimedia devices.
6) Lesser support and service provisions in India: This one is quite obvious, since there is not many people buying Apple, the company isn’t caring much about the number of service stations. But this isn’t helping the some hard-core fans of Apple which stay many miles away from the authentic service stations. This is also a factor which discourages many to go for an Apple.

Clash for the Crown- Samsung Galaxy Note 510 vs. Apple iPad Mini

July 30, 2013 by Tablet Guru Leave a Comment

ipadmini vs Samsung Note 510
Samsung is making its position strong and alluring it when it comes to the global Smartphone market share and they have set an aim to provide best tablets to the users as well. Apple on the other hand holds its tiara upright with its flourishing growth and products. Two of the best tablets: – Samsung Galaxy Note 510 and Apple iPad Mini are making their way to sway away customer’s hearts. So when compared side by side and feature by feature, which tablet comes out on top?

Dapper Design
The design of the Samsung Note 510 exhibits white overall body with chrome like plastic on the sides giving it a very delicate and attractive look. On the other hand, the iPad mini is built with classic Apple-premium aluminum body, and is really a better fit in your hands and feels extremely splendid
Talking about the dimensions, the Galaxy Note 510 is 210.8 x 135.9 x 7.95 mm vs. the iPad mini’s dimensions of 200 x 134 x 7.2mm. They both are thin tablets. The Note 510 weighs 338g vs. the iPad mini’s 308g weight. Considering the 30 gram weight difference, they still remain light and handy to carry.
Overall, build quality is obviously better on iPad mini.

Display
The Galaxy Note 510 possesses an 8 inch IPS TFT screen with a 1280×800 resolution. It has 189 ppi of pixel density and sports a wacom digitizer for pen input. The iPad mini on the other hand flaunts a 7.9 inch IPS TFT screen with a resolution of 1024×768 pixels and has 163ppi of pixel density. They are both excellent in colour reproduction and viewing angles grouped with amazingly bright display for reading outdoors.
The Note’s display exhibiting Wacom layer for the pen functionality takes away that extra point and manages to win on this aspect.

Performance
The iPad mini is power driven by Apple A5 1 GHz dual core processor and dual core PowerVR graphics with 512 MB of RAM. Whereas, The Galaxy Note 510 sports a 1.6 GHz quad core Exynos 4412 Mali 400 MP with 2 GB of RAM. The Note 510 is a calling device with an ear piece. The performance is equally good on both ends with blazing fast speeds.

So as for the performance aspect, it rather is a tie.

Camera
The 5-megapixel cameras on the rear of both the iPad and the Note take decent pictures. The Galaxy Note’s features are a little better than the iPad Mini’s but both produce crisp and sharp images. The Note 510 leads ahead due to the camera app, which is far more vigorous than the Mini’s. The long list of remarkable options available for Samsung smartphones has been embarked on this tablet as well, from Exposure to filters to panorama to instant sharing with lacks on iPad’s camera features.
Galaxy Note 510 takes a lead on the camera front.

Battery Life
The Galaxy Note 510 could last almost two days depending on the type of usage if not too heavy. But you could any day opt for system settings and reduce the brightness or kill applications to save some battery from draining. On the other hand, the iPad Mini could hold in much more than this and provide a better battery backup.
Battery life is an essential criterion, and iPad Mini takes its crown on this one.

Verdict
In the end, both are amazing tablets with splendid features. Looking through performance and features with a great camera, Galaxy note 510 takes the bow even it is rated slightly higher than iPad mini. The galaxy note 510 price in India is Rs 30,900.
